From February 8, 2025, the new national standard "National Food Safety Standard — Food Additives Usage Standard" (GB 2760-2024) will be officially implemented.
The new standard deletes the use of dehydroacetic acid and its sodium salt in starch products, bread, pastries, baked food fillings and other foods.
Foods produced from February 8 must comply with the provisions of the new national standard.
Foods produced before February 8 can be sold normally within the shelf life.
1. The use of sodium dehydroacetate in butter and concentrated butter, starch products, bread, pastries, baked food fillings and batter, pre-prepared meat products, fruit and vegetable juice (puree) is prohibited.
2. Canned foods are no longer allowed to add preservatives.
3. Limit the total used amount of some sweeteners.
Sodium dehydroacetate is a commonly used food additive that has been widely used in China since the 1980s. Because it has a good inhibitory effect on the growth of fungi, yeasts and molds, it is often used as a high efficiency broad-spectrum preservative and antibacterial agent. It is a food additive with preservative effect that has been widely recognized by the Food and Agriculture Organization and the World Health Organization.
